Workshops 1 and 4 (repeated)

Title: RFID Learning Table

Hands on sessions with RFID Learning Table limited to 3 at a time.
Hands on sessions will be run from a stand at the conference over the two days, so there will be plenty of opportunity to try the system yourself.

This workshop will give interested viewers an opportunity to engage with Facilitators who will;
  • provide technical details on the point-of-view technology available in Australia
  • provide some case examples of point-of-view use in an educational context
  • provide some overview into video streaming options involving mobile solutions for remote assessment and workplace engagement
  • provide information as to the applied use of this context in other workplace / organizational settings
  • provide examples of educational training resources developed using this technology

Title: Using FlickR as a Teaching Tool

Session overview:
Flickr’s primary purpose is to provide an online space where people can upload their photos and videos. Like many of the social media tools it also offers great potential for teaching. Flickr affords opportunity to teach
  • The skills of digital literacy (uploading, tagging, organizing, creating networks)
  • Critical thinking skills (how to appropriately tag images/videos; comparison/analysis of tags used by other Flickr users)
  • Language skills (literal v figurative language; spelling; discussion/comments; creative writing)

This session will demonstrate how Flickr can be used to realise these teaching goals.

Title: Applications for Rapid E-learning Development (ARED) - introductory workshop

ARED or "Applications for Rapid E-learning Development" provides practitioners with ready-made, re-usable templates that can be used to generate high quality, cost effective, e-learning resources. See how an interactive resource:
  • can be built in as little as 5 minutes.
  • takes up very little disk space and therefore is highly portable.
  • can be linked into other resources (as part of a Learner Management System course or any other webpage, for example).

In this session you'll have a chance to explore the resource and discuss it's uses in VET.

In this session you will explore how to record and edit audio lessons using Audacity - free, open source, audio recording and editing software - and save them in MP3 format so they can be played on MP3 players or made available over the Internet in a podcast.

The session will cover:
  • Different audio file formats and their characteristics
  • Preparing a computer to record sound
  • Recording an audio lesson using audio recording and editing software
  • Basic editing of an audio file
  • Saving an audio file in MP3 format and set the file’s ID3 tags
  • Methods for distributing audio lessons as MP3 files
  • Identification of some educational applications and uses of audio lessons

  • the basics of podcasting and gain hands on experience in creating a podcast/vblog and posting an episode
  • RSS Subscription techniques including the one click iTunes method
  • How to register a podcast/vblog including with the iTunes library
